If you’ve seen any 4K displays over the last couple of years, be it monitors, TVs or even high-end mobile phones, there’s a very good chance that you may have seen Timescapes — an absolutely stunning 4K film by renewed filmmaker Tom Lowe. Practically everywhere I’ve seen a 4K display, this is one of the demo films that plays on them.
Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Producer – AWAKEN is director Tom Lowe’s first feature film. His previous short film “Timescapes” attracted a passionate following, support from companies like Canon and Adobe, and was financially successful within weeks of its release.
During production of “Timescapes” in September 2010, Lowe was awarded as Astronomy Photographer of the Year by the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. He has since served as second-unit director for mentors Terrence Malick (VOYAGE OF TIME) and Godfrey Reggio (VISITORS).
Tom Lowe is back with a fresh new project titled ‘AWAKEN‘ — a documentary film that explores “humanity’s relationship with technology and with the natural world.”
Awaken was shot over a 5-year period across more than 30 countries, the film makes use of some intense new time-lapse technologies that combines stunning photos and astrophography in the same frame. We cannot express this is words, you have to watch the trailer video above.
the film pioneers new time-lapse, time-dilation, underwater, and aerial cinematography techniques to give audiences new eyes with which to see our world.
AWAKEN looks absolutely stunning I can’t wait to watch it, preferably in the theaters. Wouldn’t you? There’s no release date yet, but you can keep with the news about it on the official website and follow its social channels on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

As it turns out, AWAKEN is scheduled to be released in some Dolby Cinema theaters when it releases. I hope it comes to Mumbai too.
